A lively Incheon International Airport buzzing with excitement
A familiar face in the lobby!
Hello, I’m Carlos Gorito, a member of the Immigrant Mentor Group. The Smart Entry System (SES), the automated immigration gates, is now globally recognized! However, many people misunderstand that it is only available to Korean nationals. But that's not the case. In fact, foreign nationals can use the SES too in some cases. Today, we will explain when foreigners can use the system through a fun skit.
[Situation 1] It is said that love transcends borders....
But it can be blocked at borders?!
Long wait in the immigration lane for foreign nationals
I'm so frustrated!
Ah, why isn't the line getting any shorter?
It’s because two flights just arrived.
Honey, are you already done with your immigration process? Just, wait for me, okay? I love you!
Korean wife?
(Proudly saying) Yeah, I’ve been married to a Korean woman for a year now.
It must be really inconvenient to be separated from your wife to complete the immigration process.
Yes, it is pretty tough to be separated every time we go through the entry process.
Wait. You don’t need to be separated. Overseas Koreans, permanent residents (F-5 visa holders), and marriage immigrants can use both the entry lane for foreign nationals and Korean passport holders.
Then, can my wife and I use the same entry lane as Koreans?
Yes, sure, use it right now~
I need a Korean husband!
Thank you. Bye Bye!
Tips for immigration
Marriage Immigrants, overseas Koreans, permanent residents (F-5 visa holders) are eligible to use both the entry lane for foreign nationals and for Korean passport holders.
[Situation 2]
In fact, the automated immigration system is open to all outbound passengers?
Are you here to register for the automated immigration gates, SES?
Yes, I’ve been living in Korea since I got a job here, but it’s really inconvenient to use the immigration lane for foreign nationals every time I get back from my business trip.
I actually came to travel in Korea, and I’d like to know if I can use the SES.
Wait! No worries. Foreign nationals aged 17 and older who are registered or have reported domestic residence can use it upon arrival and departure without prior registration.
No way. I’ve only used the immigration lane for foreign nationals until now!
At the manned immigration counter, the officers collected fingerprint information and took a photo with a camera.
If foreign visitors provide their facial image and fingerprints upon arrival, they can also use the SES when departing.
I don’t need to queue then.
Make your departure smoother by using the automated immigration system, SES!
Wow! I’ve bought a little more time for my trip to Korea! I’m so “LUCKY VICKI”
Tips for Immigration
▶ Foreigners aged 17 and older who are registered or have reported domestic residence are eligible to use the Smart Entry Service (SES) without prior registration (Prior registration is required for those aged 7 and under 17.)
▶ Tourists aged 17 and above are eligible to use the SES at departure if they provide information on fingerprints and facial image during entry inspection.
What did you think of our immigration tips from the skit?
I only used the SES once but I think I need to use it more often.
It was very useful tips for using the system more easily.
I like the part where we can use the SES without prior registration.
With the SES, we can enjoy our trip to Korea more quickly and conveniently upon arrival and departure.
